Pennington Balloon Championship - Baton Rouge, Louisiana
The championship will be Friday, August 7, 8 and 9th. The Balloon Competitions start early each morning. Balloon Mass Ascension, and Balloon Glow Friday and Saturday evenings. See their website for schedules of demonstrations and children's activities. Fireworks Friday and Saturday beginning at 9:30. Free admission.

Baton Rouge Mardi Gras 2009 in Spanish Town, Buy Yeaux Bailout.

Spanish Town Mardi Gras
The theme for 2009 is Buy Yeaux Bailout. A Baton Rouge tradition, this Mardi Gras parade is a favorite. Check their website for history and photos of previous years.

State Capitol Building of Louisiana
The Arsenal Museum is located on the grounds along with many beautiful oak, magnolias, and cypress trees. It was the first site of Louisiana State University and formerly a military post known as the Pentagon Barracks. You can go up in the elevator to the top and look out over the Mississippi River. It is a great view of Baton Rouge. The Old Civil War Arsenal is also located on the grounds.

USS KIDD, the "Pirate of the Pacific"
Located in downtown Baton Rouge on the Mississippi river. She is part of a memorial which serves to honor the men and women of our American armed forces.

Baton Rouge River Center
Grand Ballroom, Theater For Preforming Arts, Arena. Events such as Tim McGraw, Amy Grant, Vince Gill, Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus, Celtic Thunder , and more.

The Baton Rouge Chorus
Associated with the larger organization, Sweet Adelines International, specializing in four-part a capella "barbershop-style" harmony.

Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra
The season contains over 60 concerts held in over 12 venues across the state of Louisiana providing education and cultural enrichment for the people of the greater Baton Rouge region and neighboring communities.

Baton Rouge Raceway
Located 8 Miles North of Airline Highway on Plank Rd (Hwy 67). Races this year include O’Reilly SUPR Late Models and SUPR Modifieds, NeSmith Crate Late Models, Lim, Modifieds, Street Stock, Pure Stock and Stingers, and more.

Baton Rouge Little Theater
Non-profit theatre with productions such as Chicago, A Man for All Seasons, The Producers, The Vertical Hour, Singin’ in the Rain, Born Yesterday, and much more. Check their site for upcoming events. They also offer spring, fall and summer workshops for children, teens and adults.

Baton Rouge Zoo
More than 1,800 animals await you in the beautifully landscaped Zoo. Take a scenic ride on the Cypress Bayou Railroad or a narrated tour of the Zoo on the sidewalk White Tiger Tram.
